Xiaomi is best in class in the budget segment smartphones. The company well-known about the customer preferences and likable things which they include in their smartphones. Today Xiaomi Redmi S2 smartphone launched officially on May 10 in China. In a coming few weeks the device will launch in India as well. Xiaomi launched so many budget category smartphones already in this year and this one is another addition in budget smartphone list. Other smartphone brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Huawei getting too much competition in the market for Xioami devices. This time the dual rear camera setup is almost like Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The Chinese manufacturing company showcased many AI featured camera options and experiences during the launch event. Xiaomi Redmi S2 Specifications

The Xioami Redmi S2 comes with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD HD+ display of a resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels with an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The display is covered by a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass which will give an extra layer of protection. The display visibility is decent enough in under sunlight stated by Xiaomi.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core Soc, works with 8 × ARM Cortex A53 cores. The CPU is clocked up to 2.0GHz coupled with Adreno 506 GPU with 3GB and 4GB of RAM. The internal storage is 32GB for the base model and 64GB of the higher model. Whereas, the device can support 256GB of microSD card expansion via a dedicated microSD card slot.

The Xioami Redmi S2 has a dual rear camera of 12MP of a primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP of a secondary sensor for depth sensing feature. The dual rear camera supports EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) just like the Redmi Note 5 Pro up to some extent. The front features an AI-powered 16MP of selfie camera with 2.0μm pixels which is capable of capturing portrait shots with the Beautification 2.0 mode like AI Selfie, AI Beauty etc. The rear camera can record 1080p videos @30fps. Other features include PDAF, Panorama, Geo-tagging, portrait mode etc.

The device is packed with a 3,080mAh non-removable battery which will be charged through a micro USB 2.0 port. There is no fast charging support available in this budget smartphone. The Xiaomi Redmi S2 features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, Hotspot, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, 4G VOLTE etc. All the major sensors are available like Proximity, Magnetometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyro, Compass etc. The new “Little Love Classmate” voice assistant feature will do so many complex actions or works in a few seconds over command.

As per the official Mi website, the smartphone is priced at around CNY 999 and CNY 1,299 in China. The Indian expected price will be around Rs. 10,500 – Rs. 13,800 for 3GB and 4GB RAM variant.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 seems to be another budget king smartphone with decent specs. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi launches this device in India as well. The reports say that the Xiaomi Redmi S2 will come with stock Android ROM in the Indian market as an Android One powered device. Because already there are so many Xiaomi Redmi budget devices available in the market between INR 11,000 price range such as Redmi Note 4, Redmi 5/5 Plus etc.
