Xiaomi launched two budget Redmi series smartphones in China as Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. The Redmi 6 base model priced at around 799 Yuan ($125) and Redmi 6A is priced at around only 599 Yuan ($94). As per the price segment, both devices feature good specifications. The Redmi 6 is the successor of the last year’s popular Redmi 5, and comes with 18:9 aspect ratio display, Face Unlock, dedicated fingerprint sensor in Redmi 6. It also has the AI-powered camera and Xiao AI Voice Assistant, AI Smart Object etc.

On the other hand, the Redmi 6A comes with 18:9 aspect ratio display and AI features as well. Both the device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo over MIUI 9 out of the box. The specifications are also good enough for this price tag.

Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A Look and Design:

The 18:9 aspect ratio display of Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A looks great and the smaller display size with smaller form factor feels more compact and sturdy. The polycarbonate back panel has a brushed metal surface design with symmetrically curved and tapered edges feels great in the hand. Xiaomi claims that it has the “small willow waist body”. The front panel has a 2.5D curved glass for more premium look and it has a chin on both up and down of display. The speaker placed at the lower back under the Mi logo.

The antenna lines are placed nicely just like other budget category Redmi smartphones. It has a single rear camera with LED flash but the module placed horizontally which looks great than the Redmi Note 5 and Mi 6X device.

Redmi 6:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels. This is the 80.7 percent screen to body ratio. The device is powered by an octa-core 64-bit MediaTek Helio P22 SoC paired with 2 × 4 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM variant. It offers IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU running up to 650MHz. The Helio P22 is based on 12nm FinFET process and clocked up to 2.0GHz, it is also capable of consuming less power than the 28nm chipsets. This CPU also features ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture that automatically switches between power consumption and performance cores depending on tasks.

Xiaomi Redmi 6

The onboard storage comes with 32GB/64GB, whereas it can be expandable up to 256GB via MicroSD card through the dedicated SD slot. The Xioami Redmi 6 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 out of the box pack. It comes with a 3,000mAh battery.

Redmi 6A:

The Xioami Redmi 6A comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels. The display pixel density is around 295ppi. It is powered by quad-core 64-bit MediaTek Helio A22 SoC which is based on 12nm process. The Helio A22 clocks up to 2.0GHz, pairs with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with IMG PowerVR GE-Class GPU. This CPU is 30 percent faster and GPU up to 72 percent faster than the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 chip.

The device does come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, the storage can be expandable up to 256GB via dedicated MicroSD card slot. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 out of the shell. The device has a 3,000mAh battery.

Redmi 6 Camera:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 has a dual 12MP + 5MP rear camera setup, whereas the primary sensor has 1.25µm pixels – the largest pixels among the all popular smartphones in this price tag. The larger pixels size can take more light than the smaller one, that means the low light photography will be better. The rear camera has phase detection autofocus to improve focusing speed and sharpness. The single 5MP of the front camera is supported by Xiaomi’s AI portrait mode, which can give perfect bokeh images with a single lens.

Redmi 6A Camera:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A features a single 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture lens with LED flash and PDAF mode. It also has AI portrait mode with autofocus, Panorama, Geo-tagging, Small Object Tracking Mode etc. The larger pixel size can deliver better low light images.

The front has a single 5MP of selfie camera which can take a good quality selfies with portrait mode, Beautification mode etc.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 includes connectivity options like 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, Micro-USB port, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS etc. It does have all the major sensors like Proximity, Accelerometer, Gyro, Ambient Light, Compass, Infrared sensor etc.

The device includes features like Xiaomi AI Portrait mode, Xiao AI Voice Assistant, Face Unlock, Rear-mounted dedicated fingerprint sensor, AI-Smart Object tracking mode etc. It measures around 147.5 × 71.5 × 8.3mm and weighs around 146 grams.

Redmi 6A:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A includes connectivity options like 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G VOLTE, GPS, A-GPS, Micro-USB etc. Whereas, the sensors like Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Proximity, Compass are available in Redmi 6A.

Just like the Redmi 6, it also features Xiao AI Voice Assistant, Xiao AI Classmate, AI Small Objects Tracking, AI face Unlock etc. The device doesn’t have a dedicated fingerprint sensor. It has a triple slot for dual SIM and a dedicated MicroSD card. The dimensions of this smartphone are 147.5 × 71.5 × 8.3mm and it weighs around 145 grams.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A Price and Availability:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 priced at around 799 Yuan (Rs.8,400 approx) for 3GB RAM/32GB Storage variant and 999 Yuan (Rs.10,500 approx) for the 4GB/64GB variant. Grey, Blue, Gold, and Rose Gold colors will be available. The Redmi 6 will be available in China from June 15 onwards via the first sale.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A priced at around 599 Yuan (Rs.6,300 approx) for the base 2GB/16GB variant. Rose Gold, Grey, Gold, and Blue – four colors will be available. The first sale will start on June 15 in China.
