Xiaomi launched mid-range budget Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite in Europe with Android One Platform

Google launched the Android One platform back in 2014 to improve Android user experience in low-budget and mid-range smartphones. This Android One platform is made for guaranteed latest and stable Android version updates with latest security patch updates as well. This program is most suitable for system optimized device hardware to perform better with built-in Google apps. The AI-powered system is capable of providing a simple pure stock Android UI with a lower power consumption rate. Last year in September, Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 device with this Android One platform as a mid-range budget segment smartphone. Yesterday on 24th July in Spain, Xiaomi launched two another Android One lineup devices called Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite.

These two Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are the successors of the last generation Mi A1 smartphone. As we all know that the Xiaomi Mi A1 was the best ever dual rear camera from Xiaomi and other budget-range devices with a competitive specification and price tag. The Mi A2 will be launched in India on 8th August.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Specifications and Features

The Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD 18:9 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels with 403 PPI and 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top. The device is powered by an Octa-Core 2.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The device will be available in 4GB/6GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage variant. The Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform is featured with Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE), Spectra 160 ISP, Powerful Kryo 260 CPU, Hexagon 680 DSP, X12 LTE modem with up to 30% improved performance over graphics.

The beautifully designed Aluminium unibody curved back panel looks and feels so premium. After the Mi A1 camera quality, now the Mi A2 will blow your mind with increased pixels and noiseless camera pictures. The front has a single 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with Super Pixel Technology which merges four smaller pixels into a single larger one (2.0µm pixel). This can capture sharp and brighter low light images along with AI-Portrait, AI-Beautify 4.0, Face Recognition unlock, Group Selfie, Auto HDR, PDAF etc. with a front LED flash.

Whereas the device has a dual rear camera of 12MP+20MP AI sensor with LED flashlight at the back. The 12MP camera with Sony IMX486 sensor has a 1.25µm large pixels along with a f/1.75 aperture lens. On the other hand, the 20MP of Sony IMX376 sensor features the Super Pixel Technology with a f/1.75 larger aperture lens. Both the sensors are capable of capturing perfect portrait and low light pictures without losing quality and can record up to 4K videos @30fps.

The Mi A2 comes with a dual Nano-SIM slot where you can use only two SIM cards. Only one SIM will run on 4G LTE at a time. The handset is packed with a 3,010mAh battery with 5V/2A charging support. It has connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4GHz/5GHz WiFi, WiFi Direct, WiFi Display, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, 4G LTE/GSM/WCDMA bands, USB Type-C port, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Beidou etc. It doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack. As per the sensors, it has Accelerometer, E-Compass, Gyro, Fingerprint Sensor, Ambient light, Hall, Proximity, Motor sensor etc.

The device runs on latest stock Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and measures 158.7×75.4×7.3mm and weighs 168 grams. It will be available in three colors like Gold, Black, and Lake Blue.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Price and Availability

The Xiaomi Mi A2 smartphone priced at Euro 249 (Rs.20,000 approx) for the 4GB+32GB variant. Whereas, the 4GB+64GB variant priced at Euro 279 (Rs.22,400 approx) and the 6GB+128GB model priced at Euro 349 (Rs.28,000 approx). The device will be available for sale from August via online. However, Xiaomi India officially announced on the Instagram page that Mi A2 will launch in India on August 8.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Specifications and Features

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is one of the first ever mid-range budget Android One powered smartphones which has a notched 19:9 aspect ratio display. The device comes with a 5.84-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD 2.5D curved display. It also feels very compact and sturdy as compared to the Mi A2. As we all know Xiaomi is stuck with Snapdragon 625 chipset for all budget segment devices. So, this device is powered by almost two years old Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB variant.

Mi A2 Lite

The Mi A2 Lite sports a 12MP+5MP AI-powered dual-rear camera setup with LED flash. Whereas, the primary 12MP sensor features a larger 1.25µm pixels with faster and accurate PDAF support. It can capture nice low light and portrait shots without quality loss. The front features a single 5MP AI selfie camera which also can take nice AI-Portrait, AI-Selfie, AI-Beautification mode 4.0 etc. The front also has a LED flash.

The notch contains an earpiece, single front camera, LED flash, and sensors. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with stock Android UI out of the box. It also has all the major sensors and connectivity options along with Fingerprint sensor and the Face Unlock option same as Mi A2. The Mi A2 Lite does have a dedicated slot for the MicroSD card along with dual Nano-SIM support.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Price and Availability

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite will be available at Euro 179 (Rs.14,400 approx) for the 3GB+32GB model and the 4GB+64GB variant will be priced at Euro 229 (Rs.18,400 approx) in Spain from next month. The device will come with three colors such as Lake Blue, Gold, and Black variant. However, there is no information about the Mi A2 Lite smartphone launch in India.
