Wear OS 2.1 starts rolling out on Android smartwatches with Google Fit integration and improved Google Assistant

Internet tech giant Google has announced the redesigned Wear OS 2.1 version for the Android-powered smartwatches in the market. The roll-out comes with new improved Google Assistant and enhanced Google Fit integration as well. Google is now rolling out this update as promised earlier in this month. The refined Google Fit integration offers the activity tracking of goals similar to Activity option of Apple Watch. The new interface is also quite similar to Android 9.0 Pie UI. This update will be rolled out in all compatible Android Wearables.

Google announced the new Wear OS 2.1 via an official tweet on Friday, 28th September 2018. Still, the company didn’t mention that how the update will arrive on smartwatches. However, it’s recommended and expected to install the latest Wear OS app on Android devices for quickest updates. Both the Android and iOS device compatible Wear OS app introduced the enhanced Google Fit integration with  ‘Move Minutes’ and ‘Heart Points’ options. The new Wear OS 2.1 also offers shortcuts to ‘Google Pay’ and ‘Find My Phone’ option that can be accessed via the swipe down on your wearable.

Wear OS 2.1 Interface and Features

The new UI features swipe gestures like swipe from the top will give access to quick settings, swipe from the bottom for notifications, swipe from the left for Google Fit and swipe from right for Google Assistant. In addition, the new interface will also offer Google Now cards like news or information. The quick notification toggle is now changed for different apps with different tinted colors. For instance, Android Message notification comes in blue tint color and Hangout gets a red tint. You can also implement the built-in ‘Smart Reply’ feature to reply to any messages with a single tap.

Meanwhile, the users can go to the ‘System’ menu from the ‘Settings’ option in the app and check for ‘System Updates’ option from the ‘About’ menu. If there is any pending update available for download, simply download and install the update for better user experience till getting into Wear OS 2.1 version. Till then you have to wait for more information about the update schedule and availability.
