All of we have already seen so many projectors which turned any surface into a big screen and compatible with Android too but this time Sony made a new era of projectors which will definitely blow your mind. Sony launched their new Android projector which will turn any surface into a touchscreen and even more called ‘Sony Xperia Touch’ at MWC. This is more than just a projector. The Sony Xperia Touch has its own user interface similar to Android device along with Calander, Time and Date, real-time Weather, and a memo note etc.
Design and Overview
The Sony Xperia Touch runs on Ultra Short Throw Projector technology, that means it has own projector rays that can project an image up to 80-inches in a diagonal shape while sitting around at just 15-inches distance from the projector surface. This projector can turn up any surface mainly any flat wall, table, or any floor into a touchscreen. This touchscreen projector is functional as an Android smart device. You can put it on any surface and you will get a 23-inch of a bigger screen size. This will show you an Android customized UI which is same as any other Android handsets. It works with any Android smartphone including Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium handset.
The device weighs only 932 grams, so it is a compact device. The lens shines so much and the optimum size of the projected image to be up to 80-inches in diagonally. But in a darker condition, the image can go up to higher than 80-inches without any quality issue. The 1366 x 768 pixels resolution is not that wider and higher quality but still for personal use and home use it is good enough. It got “Red Dot Award 2018 – Best of the Best” and “iF DESIGN AWARD 2018” for the innovation and compact looks and design.

The IR sensor allows for multi-touch interaction. It can detect up to 10 fingers at a time. Thanks to the Snapdragon 650 chipset inside, it doesn’t feel laggy at all. The touch surface areas are works smoothly. The projector uses a Laser Diode ray as a light source and the Keystone autofocus system holds up the image clarity every time. The brightness is up to 100 lumens, which is decent. It has NFC also for pairing and connecting devices. The Bluetooth v4.2 aptX and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac is also supported.
The Sony Xperia Touch projector also has the Miracast sink, DLNA, and Wi-Fi Direct options as well. All the necessary sensors and connectivity options are available on this device. The touch uses the Sony’s SXRD projection display technology and detects users’ gestures and taps using a combination of infrared sensors via camera @ 60fps. The battery is supposed to last for an hour on video playback mode. That is the downside of this device.
The Sony Xperia Touch projector can be used as a media content streamer, as a gameplay board, as an internet browser, as a message or memo board, and as a video calling app or device. It automatically detects and senses the user distance and start doing activities whatever the device supposed to do. This is a great feature. You can access all of your Android Apps and surface type games, media streaming, internet and youtube browsing etc. without any issue.
The material and design craftsmanship are remarkable as compared to the other projector devices. It is lightweight and elegant to carry out anywhere. The two-way stereo sound speakers are placed for the better and rich sound experience. The power USB 15V adapter is decent for charging it quickly. The projection image size is 23-80-inches normally.
