The LG V40 ThinQ smartphone launched in New York City with the flagship grade specifications and five cameras on October 4. This one is the successor of the previous generation LG V30. The earlier LG G7 ThinQ was also a hit model in terms of the specifications and features provided by the South Korean LG Electronics company. The LG V40 ThinQ comes with a triple rear camera setup with a dual selfie camera setup, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio notched OLED display, Snapdragon 845 chipset, MIL-STD 810 certification for better build quality, IP68 water, dust resistant feature, Boombox speaker, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad-DAC audio, DTS:X 3D surround sound with a 3.5mm audio jack etc (audio tuned with Meridian).
Just like the Huawei P20 Pro handset rear camera setup, the LG V40 ThinQ rear triple cameras can also capture ultra wide-angle shots. It has a built-in Google Lens AI camera feature with a dedicated Google Assistant option as well. The device is made out of a metal frame but covered with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection all around. The rear triple camera setup is horizontally aligned at the top middle of the device which looks quite satisfying and cool than the current tradition.
Design and Display
The LG V40 ThinQ device is much updated and redesigned than the previous generation LG V-series or ThinQ series devices. It comes with a 6.4-inch OLED 19.5:9 ratio notched Full Vision display panel with a resolution of 1440×3120 pixels and a pixel density of 537 PPI. This one is the first ever LG V-series device which carries a larger display till now with HDR10 compatibility. The device does have the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection with the IP68 water and dust resistance certification along with the MIL-STD 810 certification.
LG V40 ThinQ Specifications
The smartphone is powered by the flagship octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with the Adreno 630 GPU. The device comes in a 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB UFS 2.1 internal storage variant. The storage can be expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card slot. The handset runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and soon will get the Android 9.0 Pie update.
The LG V40 ThinQ sports a powerful triple rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor (f/1.5 aperture), 1.4µm pixels, 78-degree wide angle lens. The secondary 16MP ultra wide-angle sensor features a f/1.9 aperture, 1.0µm pixels, 107-degree viewing angle and the third one is a 12MP sensor features f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens, 1.0µm pixels, and a 45-degree viewing angle. On the front side, the dual 8MP and a 5MP selfie camera feature f/1.9 and f/2.2 aperture lens with same 1.4µm pixels size. The front camera features AI Face Unlock support as well.

The new triple camera sensors are such powerful and unique in this segment just like the Huawei P20 Pro cameras. It has a so-called ‘Triple Preview’ feature which lets the users an option to capture three simultaneous pictures and choose the best one from them very easily. The rear cameras come with the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) support with the Dual Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), HDR, and an improved Google AI camera mode. It also features AI Portrait and Google Lens with the Google Assistant as well. The third-generation AI camera mode can detect up to 19 subjects easily and recommends 4 enhanced filter options. The rear cameras can shoot 4K videos @60fps with HDR support.
Connectivity and Other Features
The LG V40 ThinQ includes all the necessary connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, FM Radio, USB Type-C port, DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, and a 3.5mm audio jack with 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC support. It also has the LG Boombox speaker technology which allows boosts the low-frequency output. The handset is packed with a decent 3,300mAh battery with the QC 3.0 fast charging and fast Qi wireless charging support.
It does have all the major sensors like Rear-mounted Fingerprint sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, E-Compass, Hall, Ambient Light, Proximity etc. The device measures 158.7×75.8×7.79mm and weigh 169 grams.
LG V40 ThinQ Price and Availability
The V40 ThinQ device will be available in two ‘True Colors’ options like Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue for now in the US market. However, the device will also be available in Platinum Gray and Carmine Red color options in the future. The handset price starts at $899.99 in the US (Rs.66,400 approx) depending on the mobile carrier options. The first sale will start from the October 18 in the US. The device could launch in India within a few months at a competitive price tag.
