LG announced on Wednesday on May 2 their two flagship smartphones called LG G7 ThinQ and LG G7 Plus ThinQ in New York. The key features of LG G7 ThinQ device are Hideable Notch, AI camera, Face recognition, Qualcomm QC3.0 support, Wireless charging, MIL-STD 810G metal frame with IP68 water and dust resistance certificate etc. The device comes with the Boombox speaker which enables Hi-Fi Quad DAC and DTS-X 3D 7.1 channel surround sound enhancement. At MWC 2018, we already have seen LG V30S ThinQ model with AI-enabled camera features.
LG G7 ThinQ and LG G7 Plus ThinQ Specifications
The LG G7 ThinQ smartphone comes with a 6.1-inch QHD+ 19.5:9 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels. The FullVision ‘Super Bright’ M+ LCD panel with the RGBW matrix and the brightness up to 1000 nits brings the display quality and clarity up to a mark. The display also contains 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut which can consume 30% less power than the LG G6 device. The display contains a customizable notch where the notch contains selfie camera, earpiece, and sensors. Without the notch part, the display size will be around 5.94-inches.
The flagship device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core Soc clocked up to 2.8GHz along with Adreno 630 GPU. The processor works on 4 cores×2.8GHz Kryo 385 performance architecture and 4 cores×1.8GHz Kryo 385 efficiency architecture for maximum results. It has 4GB and 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM variant with 64GB and the 128GB internal storage capacity whereas, the 6GB/128GB variant will be available as LG G7 Plus ThinQ model. The device storage can be expandable via microSD card slot up to 2TB. The LG G7 Plus ThinQ all specs are same except RAM and storage capacity.
The LG G7 ThinQ device comes with the dual rear 16MP+16MP camera with LED flash where the primary 16MP camera featured with the 107-degree super wide angle lens with the f/1.9 aperture with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Laser autofocus, Phase detection autofocus, Auto HDR. The secondary 16MP camera features a 71-degree wide angle view with f/1.6 aperture. The front has a single 8MP selfie camera with a f/1.9 aperture and the 80-degree lens support. Both the front and rear camera can take nice portrait shots even in low light.
The rear dual cameras can record 4K videos @30fps but only in HDR mode. There is also a ‘Cine Video’ mode for pro-users to create some cinematic effect in the videos. The image stabilization works well in 1080p and even in 4K videos. It can capture slo-mo videos in only 720p videos @240fps. The Sony IMX351 sensors are quite capable of capturing a good detailed amount of images with the help of AI technology.
In the connectivity part, the device has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB-C port, 3.5mm audio jack with HiFi Quad Dac support and Hi-Res audio streaming quality, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi Direct, GLONASS etc. It supports two Nano SIM slot, FM Radio etc.
LG G7 ThinQ Features
The LG G7 ThinQ smartphone comes with the Face recognition unlock and wireless charging option. The dedicated fingerprint scanner is placed on the back below the dual camera module. The device supports HDR10 video streaming also. It comes with the Boombox speaker which supports Hi-Fi Quad DAC and DTS-X 3D surround sound up to 7.1 channel frequency. The device is packed with the non-removable 3,000 mAh battery which can support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 facility and wireless charging also as mentioned above.
The LG G7 ThinQ running on Android 8.0 Oreo with the latest LG UX 6.0 UI out of the box pack. The device weighs around 162 grams with the dimension of 153.2×71.9×7.9mm. The LG G7 ThinQ includes an extra dedicated button below the volume button to activate Google Assistant with one tap and Google Lens with two taps. The user can instantly do the conversation with Google Assistant by holding down the button. The device also featured “Super Far-Field” Voice Recognition technology which can hear and detect commands up to 5 meters away.
Pricing and Availability
The LG G7 ThinQ and LG G7 Plus ThinQ launched in New York and in a coming few days will be available in Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America and then South Korea as well. The LG G7 ThinQ and LG G7 Plus ThinQ will be available in four colors such as New Platinum Grey, New Moroccan Blue, New Raspberry Rose, and New Aurora Black.
Though the release date and pricing will vary as per region and carrier, the LG G7 ThinQ will be available for sale in Canada and the U.S. from June 1, Friday. The pre-orders will start from May 24, Sunday in some U.S. carriers. The expected price will be around $650 to $750 dollars (INR 43,000 to INR 49,999). So we have to wait for the specific launch date in the specific region for an actual price tag.
