Lenovo group Vice President Chang Cheng mentioned on Weibo that the company could launch World’s first 5G smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip inside. Last time in June the company announced Lenovo Z5 as a mid-range budget smartphone but it was rumored and hyped on the internet that Lenovo will launch World’s first 4TB of internal storage and so many patents inside that phone. Finally, those claims were found as a publicity stunt.
World’s first 5G smartphone Competition
Now again the Lenovo group VP back with a new claim. He also mentioned that the device could come with some major technology leadership patent number. However, he doesn’t reveal any other information yet. All the smartphone manufacturers and mobile network companies are working hard on that to provide first ever 5G smartphone and faster 5G connectivity. As per the previous leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ could be first the phone to have Snapdragon 855 SoC. Recently, we mentioned that the Sony Xperia and Xiaomi device spotted on the Geekbench score with Snapdragon 855.

On the other side, Huawei is rumored to debut its first ever 5G smartphone before June 2019. We mentioned earlier that Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro could be the first ever device which will be powered by the Huawei Kirin 980 SoC which will be based on 7nm FinFET process with Cambrian NPU. So the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro performs better than SDM845 SoC. Huawei is already sent media invites for the IFA 2018 keynote on 31st August 2018. OnePlus 6T or OnePlus 7 is also expected to launch in next year June with 5G connectivity option and it will also be powered by Snapdragon 855. The competition is getting hard in the smartphone industry in terms of specifications and price tag.
7nm FinFET Node based Mobile Processors – Snapdragon 855, Kirin 980 and More
Now Oppo and Vivo are also entered into the list after launching full bezel-less display with the motorized pop-up camera feature. Qualcomm could announce the Snapdragon 855 SoC by the end of this year. This will be made on 7nm FinFET process with the 5G modem. In this segment, Xiaomi and Huawei are doing best of them in terms of the price point than other brands.
Some other brands like Motorola, HTC, Nokia, LG, ZTE are also working on 5G smartphone reportedly. Whereas, Google also preparing for the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. Now it will be interesting to see that whether they include the upcoming flagship Snapdragon 855 SoC or launch with the existing Snapdragon 845 chipset.
5G Technology – Explained in Brief
The 5G technology or 5G connectivity will be the successor and future version of 4G LTE. 4G is the fourth generation of broadband mobile wireless network technology which one is the successor of 3G connectivity. According to the reports, the 5G base connectivity stations are expected to offer up to 20Gbps download (↓) and 10Gbps of upload (↑) speeds. So it is very clear that the 5G will be much faster and way better than the current 4G connection speed.
In terms of the 5G users, the expected download speed will be around 100Mbps and upload speed of 50Mbps on the compatible devices. Apart from that, the maximum latency time rate of 5G base stations will be around 4ms. Latency means ‘the delay before a transfer of data begins following an instruction for its transfer’. In India, BSNL telecommunication company claimed to roll out the 5G network by early 2020. Whereas, Reliance Jio 5G is expected to launch within the first half of 2019.
The Reliance Jio President Mathew Oommen told to The Economic Times, “5G will transform the industry, business, and individual lives fundamentally. The company will shift to a minimum leverage of 100MHz in the 3.5GHz band size at the starting point”.
Lenovo Z5 2019 Edition Could Be The Flagship Device
After the previous bluff or you can say poor marketing strategy from Lenovo, this time it’s hard to believe that the company will launch World’s first 5G smartphone with flagship Snapdragon 855 chip. However, technology is a kind of thing which you can’t expect or assume for all the time. It is expected that the Lenovo Z5 2019 edition will be the flagship 5G smartphone by Lenovo or maybe the device could launch with a different model name.
After the success of Lenovo Z5 device, Lenovo should definitely stand out on their words otherwise, these types of hyped marketing strategy won’t last for long. If the company make this possible even either as World’s first 5G smartphone or World’s first Snapdragon 855 powered handset, they will back in track for sure.
