Spam text messages have become a common thing in recent years for most brands and recognized marketers to push SMS or flash messages. Sometimes it may be difficult to identify legitimate messages from unknown senders to decide if they’re legit. As Apple iOS devices are getting targeted with spam messages, you can check out how to block spam text on iPhone or iPad.
Spam texts can be so annoying, just like irrelevant spam calls. These unwanted messages clutter the messages section and distract your attention. As such messages mostly offer fake claims or phishing scams, it can lead you to unexpected consequences. Such as data theft, malware attacks, looting money from your bank accounts, etc.
What is a Spam Text Message?
As the name suggests, a spam text message is an unwanted, irrelevant, and suspicious electronic communication format that is sent out in bulk to numerous mobile users.
Usually, spam messages can be sent via texts, phishing emails, flash messages, social media platforms, mobile applications, etc. However, the number of active spam texts is mostly sent via SMS because text messages can be transferred in no time.
This is the fastest way for spammers or hackers to reach a wide user base. Spreading malware, phishing, data theft, duping people with fake offers, etc., are the main purposes of spam messages.
Spam messages aren’t as aggressive or prominent as spam calls. In most cases, the caller is trained to make your mind click on a suspicious link or use psychological tactics to force you to use sensitive data like OTP, internet banking passwords, etc.
In the past few years, hackers have also become technologically advanced, like security systems, to steal hard-earned money from your bank account without even OTPs.
So, blocking spam text messages on your iPhone or iPad is quite important to keep your phone safe from external attacks, and your messages section will also get clean as you would expect.

Method 1: Delete and Report Junk

This specific method will help Apple and your mobile carrier provider to spot spam messages. Apple is good at dealing with spam and phishing as compared to other brands.
Fortunately, you can use a one-tap feature to easily delete and report junk for spam messages that are sent via Apple’s iMessage service. If your carrier supports it, you’ll be able to report SMS/MMS spam instantly. To do this:
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone/iPad.
- Tap to select a spam/suspicious message.
- Hit the Report Junk option at the bottom.
- Tap on Delete and Report Junk from the pop-up interface.
- You’re good to go.
Please Note: This won’t automatically block future spam messages from the specific sender until you block the contact on your iPhone manually.

Do remember that blocking messages will also block calls and FaceTime calls from that number on your iPhone or iPad. So, if the contact is someone known to you in real, you should only delete the spam message rather than block the contact.
However, if the blocked contact tries to call you, their calls will be stored in voicemail. You’ll be able to check that voicemail in your voicemail inbox. So, there is nothing to worry about because you won’t see any notifications for that.
