The Google annual I/O event is mainly for developers and it is the time when we get to know all the latest and upcoming devices or technologies which will be developed by Google itself. this year in 2018, Google seems a little bit of aggressive about their products and technologies too. The Google Android new version, AI technology, AR/VR, Wear OS, Google Assistant and Home Smart speaker, Google Lens, and Google Android TV and Auto could be the main highlight in Google I/O 2018.
The Google I/O 2018 event starts from Tuesday, May 8 to May 10 Thursday and same as before the tech giant company will unveil their latest products and features. Those upcoming products and features will be available in coming months. The event will be held at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. The below-mentioned points might take the hit in terms of new development in Google I/O 2018. Let’s go through these seven things.
The latest stable Android version what we are using right now is Android 8 Oreo, though the percentage of the user is very low. Google already released a first developer preview version of Android P (most probably Android 9) in some Google Pixel devices through the manual update in March. The Android P is focused on notification streamline, media volume segmentation, connectivity categories, customizable display notch, refined material design icons and much more. It also features the customizable navigation bar, menus, and setting interface. There are some rumors about the screen gesture feature like the Apple iPhone X. It is expected to release the second developer preview or the stable version of Android P in Google I/O 2018 event.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Except for Android, The Google I/O 2018 could feature the Artificial Intelligence by Google itself. AI will be the future in technology because the system can work a lot of things without any extra effort and the user data can be saved by itself. It automatically detects the usage terms and history for further movement. The Google Assistant, Google Lens, Google Translate, and the Google Voice recognition are based on the AI technology. This AI can also feature self-driving cars and deep mind research. We already heard about the AI-enabled developer conference of Facebook F8 last week. AI will differentiate the Human research with the technology.
Google Assistant, Google Lens, and Google Home
The Google Assistant and Google Lens is software based programming feature which is worked mostly by Artificial Intelligence. The Google Assistant works in both typing and voice command. It really more dedicated to specific content and information skills. This is more accurate, consistent, and faster than the Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and the Samsung’s Bixby Assistant. Microsoft’s Cortana is also on the list but it didn’t that well. People find Google Assistant more useful and easy to use than others. Even the Google Home and Google Home Mini Smart Speakers are integrated with Google Voice Assistant. The performance of the Google Home and the Google Home Mini are so much faster and consistent with a hashtag of #MakeGoogleDoIt.
The Google Home speaker can also give answers to the questions, play music, Youtube videos when connected to a media device, set an alarm, reminders, notes, weather, news etc. The Google Lens featured in the LG G7 ThinQ smartphone. The new version of Google Lens 2.0 is on the way. The Google Lens camera is a visual search tool which provides the information about the objects and images. This is the built-in camera app. So the new version could be launched in Google I/O 2018.
Google News and Google Play
The most useful and dedicated features are Google News and Google Play on any Android device. AdAge recently reported that the Google might revamp its News platform for both desktop and mobile devices. The new Google News mobile app will feature an improved and customized interface for the better user experience. The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) with more customized Youtube videos and Facebook news feeds will be integrated with the new Google News platform. This feature could debut in Google I/O 2018 event.
The Google Play io one of the best and useful feature for Android users. The Google Play store, Play games, Play music, Play services all are the part of it. A month ago, leaks came out that the Google Play Instant will feature the users to try any game from Play Store without installing it. The Google Play Instant service will be integrated with Play Store and let the Android smartphone users play mobile games as a demo by just tapping on it.
The Google’s newly launched Wear OS, formerly known as Android Wear is now the most customized and advanced wearable technology platform which has been revealed with Android P first developer preview launch. The Wear OS improves battery life and integrated with improved notifications and Google Assistant. This new wearable version is running on Android V4.3 or higher. The Wear OS supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. It can change the watch face styles and for now, only a few smartwatches received the new update. Rest of the smartwatches will be received the update very soon. So the official announcement could be done in Google I/O 2018.
Android TV and Android Auto
Google literally developing so many things including Android TV, set-top box software, and Android Auto as well. Android TV has been popular for a few years but not that much. Though last year, we have seen a new redesigned Android O version home screen. Now the rumors coming out that the Google could release Android TV dongle just like the 4K Chromecast. That could include the new interface and a remote for a more enhanced experience.
As far as the Android TV’s concern, this software also has been popular for few years but recently it added the wireless support for the Google Pixel and Nexus devices in last month. This year in January, Google already announced that the Android Auto will adopt integrated Google Assistant power voice feature very soon. So it is expected to launch the feature in Google I/O 2018.
AR and VR Technology
Last year, Google, Lenovo, and HTC launched their standalone advanced VR headset. The integrated Google and Lenovo VR headset Mirage Solo with Daydream is now finally launched. The Lenovo Mirage Solo daydream has the camera based tracking feature and advanced technology. The Google is expected to develop a High-Resolution VR Headset Display for better user experience. Google is focusing on Youtube as a VR content streamer. So the company is working on 3D VR ready 180-degree video format and direct streaming app. The Lenovo Mirage Solo with Daydream camera can capture this format of video. So this year in Google I/O 2018 event, Google can announce something special to the developers and us as well.
On the other side, the AR capabilities are also remarkable. Recently Asus Zenfone AR smartphone tops among the other AR devices. The Tango and Daydream featured smartphone is able to collect data of Area learning, Motion tracking, and Depth perception to measure the actual data in a real-time and give an output to the users of Augmented Reality. The powerful Tri-Cam sensors will make a visible difference between real life and Augmented Reality. Google also debuted their first AR-Core app with the 3D scanning camera system to some flagship devices. So this year Google can launch something unexpected in Google I/O 2018.
